mjunction’s Indian Coal Markets Conference to focus on India’s energy appetite, decarbonisation

mjunction services limited, India’s largest B2B e-commerce company, will organise its flagship 15th Indian Coal Markets Conference on March 7 & 8 on a digital platform. The theme of the conference is “Indian Coal: Burning Bright and Clean”, and over these two days, industry experts will seek to capture the essence of broad-based changes in the energy sector and explore the opportunities and challenges they present.

As the nation awaits the end of the Covid pandemic, the Indian coal sector looks up to a plethora of new opportunities and, at the same time, some daunting challenges. The bold move by the Union government to bring in competition via commercial mining has opened up numerous possibilities, namely self-sufficiency in thermal coal, exchange-based trading, coal-to-chemicals and many more. However, India’s march towards Net Zero and emerging competition from alternative sources look set to pose a serious challenge to coal’s pride of place in the energy basket.

Altogether, 40 eminent speakers from across coal, steel, power, cement, renewables and allied sectors in India and abroad would discuss the changing energy sector dynamics and ways to align energy consumption growth with the country’s long-term goals of decarbonisation.

Speaking about the objective of the conference, Mr Vinaya Varma, MD & CEO, mjunction services limited, said, “The 15th Indian Coal Markets Conference will provide the right platform for the energy sector stalwarts to discuss threadbare how India, a country predominantly dependent on coal, can strike the right balance between meeting its exploding energy needs and decarbonisation, and thus march towards its long-term goal of Net Zero.”

Some of the industry captains who would take part in the two-day event are Mr Pramod Agrawal, chairman and managing director, Coal India Ltd, Mr S Chandrasekhar, Director (Operations), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, Mr Martin Abbott, CEO, globalCOAL, Mr M C Thomas, Managing Director (Designate), Essel Mining, Mr Prabodha Acharya, Chief Sustainability Officer, JSW Group, Mr Ravi Chopra, Director, Interocean, and Mr Ajay Misra, Director General, Renewable Energy Society of India, among others.
